Southern Elements PLC (Planar lightwave circuit) is a fiber optic splitter that is used only in PON (EPON, GPON, XPON) networks. The PLC splitter takes one head end source of signal (from an OLT) and is able to split it to multiple destinations (typically ONU/ONT). This splitter is mainly used for the connection of outdoor optical distribution boxes or network cabinets, aiming to improve the utilisation rate of customer ports. Its construction using a silica optical waveguide technology to distribute optical signals from the main distribution point to multiple premise locations.
